About the Scuba Diving tour in Costa Rica

We provide 2 tank dive trips daily Monday-Saturday. We dive mostly at the Catalina Islands, volcanic rock formations approx. 40 mins boat ride from the shore. Starting at 7.30 a.m. at our dive shop in Flamingo, for paperwork and equipment fittings, returning to shore around 1 p.m. The temperature in the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica ranges between 16-30ºC/60-86ºF depending on the time of year. Visibility can change on a daily basis. Our rocky underwater terrain is home to a huge variety of marine life, some seasonal. We can see white tip reef sharks, giant manta rays, stingrays, eagle rays, jewel and green morays, nudibranchs, angel and butterfly fish and schools of damsels, jacks, grunts and spadefish. Our dive times are based on 40min max. Bottom time and depth 18m/60ft.

All diving equipment is included as well as dive guides for groups of up to 4-5 divers and refreshments (water, iced tea, fruit, and cookies).

What to bring

Please bring your scuba diving license, towels, cameras (plenty of dry space is available onboard), Credit card or cash for payment, cash for tips or extra services (see below), sunscreen and/or a sunhat.

Other important information

Please ensure that you leave sufficient time between diving and flying!
Proof of certification is required. You must show your dive licence to staff at the store when completing paperwork. Lack of proof may require additional cost and training.
Pick up times vary depending on your location.

Where do your scuba diving tours take place in Costa Rica?

Our scuba diving tours depart from Playa Flamingo and Tamarindo and visit different dive sites along Costa Rica’s Northern Pacific coast, including the Catalina Islands, one of our main diving destinations. Dive sites may vary depending on ocean conditions and the experience level of the divers.

Do I need to be certified to join a scuba diving tour?

Yes, our regular certified scuba diving tour is designed for certified divers. We accept different certification levels and diving organizations. If you are not certified yet, you can try our Discover Scuba Diving experience, which is designed for people who want to experience scuba diving before committing to a certification course.

What marine life can I see while scuba diving in Costa Rica?

Costa Rica’s Pacific coast is home to an impressive variety of marine life. Depending on the dive site, season and ocean conditions, you may encounter white-tip reef sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, sea turtles, moray eels, nudibranchs, tropical fish and large schools of fish. Wildlife encounters are never guaranteed because marine animals live freely in their natural environment.

How deep do you dive in Costa Rica?

For certified Open Water divers, dives generally reach approximately 18–20 meters (60 feet), depending on certification level and diving conditions. Advanced divers interested in deeper dives should request this in advance, as a private guide may be required.

What is included in the scuba diving tour?

The tour includes scuba diving equipment, two guided dives and the assistance of a divemaster or instructor in small groups. Refreshments and drinks are also provided onboard. Dive computers and cameras are not included in the standard equipment package.

What is the best time of year to go scuba diving in Costa Rica?

Scuba diving in Costa Rica is available year-round, although water temperature, visibility and ocean conditions vary depending on the season and dive site. Conditions along the Northern Pacific coast can change from one day to another, so our team monitors local conditions before each trip and selects suitable dive sites.

Iann was my instructor, clearly explained how to do it then took me 1 on 1 into the Catalina Islands area for two dives. He pointed out a lot of fish and even prodded a squid out of a crevice for me to see! I felt very safe and had a great time. The crew was fun and everyone had a great time! Me and my boyfriend Matteo had six amazing dives over three days, and Iann, Risky, and the whole crew were absolutely fantastic, both above and below the water. They are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and diving with them was not only safe and professional but also a lot of fun. La gita non mi è piaciuta per nulla, abbiamo fatto quasi un'ora e mezzo di barca per arrivare al primo sito per immergerci per quasi un'ora, il luogo non è nulla di che, fondali anonimi e poca varietà di pesci. c'era la guida che guidava il gruppo però eravamo troppa gente e tutti ammassati perché ci diceva sempre di stare vicini. poi, dopo un'altra ventina di minuti di barca, siamo andati su un secondo luogo, che però è stato terribile. C'era molto vento e l'acqua era agitata e siamo stati quasi un'ora in acqua a non poter fare nulla se non stare ammollo. è vero che non è colpa loro se il mare è agitato, però se quel luogo quel giorno non è indicato per fare snorkeling, portaci da un'altra parte. Mi guía Iann se encargó de que todo saliera perfecto durante las 2 inmersiones. Pude ver variedad de fauna marina y al final nuestra guía Marie nos enseñó en un libro de todos los peces que vimos haciendo snorkel. Quiero destacar a la guía Marie que en todo momento se mostró amable y atenta, pese a no hablar español y que mi inglés no es el mejor, ella tuvo paciencia para repetirme las instrucciones en inglés. Además, es muy buena encontrando a los fauna que hay para ver, y me ayudó a repasar la técnica de inmersión en apnea. La actividad se hace en las Islas Santa Catalina que son muy bellas para admirar, y puedes observar a los piqueros de cocos cazando peces.
