About the Discover Scuba Diving tour in Costa Rica

Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving (or have been before but do not have certification) but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course then Discover Scuba Diving is for you!! While not a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the amazing underwater world. You’ll learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI professional. After practicing a few basic skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure you’ll make 2 open water dives. We’ll take you on an underwater tour looking for sharks, rays, octopus and a huge variety of marine fish we have living in our waters, in the right season you can even sometimes hear humpbacks singing! Get ready to go over the scuba equipment you use to dive and how easy it is to move around underwater with your gear. Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater. Learn the key skills that you’ll use during every scuba dive. Have fun swimming around and exploring. Learn more about becoming a certified diver through the PADI Open Water Diver course.

What's included on the Discover Scuba Diving tour in Tamarindo Costa Rica.

Pool training and all diving equipment are included as well as dive guides for groups of up to 4 divers and refreshments (water, iced tea, fruit, and cookies).

What to bring

Please bring towels, cameras (plenty of dry space is available onboard), Credit card or cash for payment, cash for tips or extra services (see below), sunscreen and/or a sunhat.

Other important information

Please leave minimum 18 hours after diving before you fly!
You are required to complete a medical statement and need to be in reasonable physical health. If there is any question regarding your health you must see a doctor before we can allow you to partake in the course.
Pick up times vary and are earlier than for other tours in order to complete pool session.
All tours are subject to a cancellation fee.

Can I try Discover Scuba Diving if I have never scuba dived before?

Yes. Discover Scuba Diving is designed specifically for people with little or no previous scuba diving experience who want to try scuba diving for the first time.

Before entering the water, you will receive an introduction to the equipment, basic skills and safety procedures.

Do I need a scuba diving certification for Discover Scuba Diving?

No certification is required for a Discover Scuba Diving experience. It is an introductory program for people who want to experience scuba diving before taking a full certification course.

If you enjoy the experience, you can continue your training with a certification such as PADI Open Water Diver.

Is Discover Scuba Diving safe for beginners?

Discover Scuba Diving is designed for beginners and is conducted under the supervision of trained diving professionals.

You will learn essential skills and receive safety instructions before entering the water.

How deep do you go during Discover Scuba Diving?

The depth of a Discover Scuba Diving experience is limited according to the program, local conditions and the instructions of the professional leading the activity.

The main goal is to learn basic scuba skills and enjoy your first underwater experience rather than reaching greater depths.

Do I need to own scuba diving equipment?

No. You do not need to purchase scuba equipment for Discover Scuba Diving. The required equipment is provided by the dive center and the instructor will explain how to use it.

Is Discover Scuba Diving the same as the Open Water Diver course?

No. Discover Scuba Diving is an introductory experience, while the PADI Open Water Diver course is a complete scuba certification program.

Discover Scuba Diving is a great way to try scuba diving before committing to a full certification course.

Can I get certified after Discover Scuba Diving?

Yes. If you enjoy your experience and want to continue learning, you can enroll in a certification course such as PADI Open Water Diver.

I was a little nervous as I’ve only snorkeled once before but the guides were great ensuring I was safe and enjoying myself throughout. We saw so many schools of fish, eels, starfish, turtles, and dolphins. Would highly recommend this snorkeling tour!!

I booked well in advance after researching the operator and was so glad I picked PCDC.

Despite my hotel being pretty far from the shop and marina, it was well worth it.

Arriving the day of the dive everything was ready and setup. I have my own equipment but everyone else was set to dive.

After a great briefing we made out way to the beautiful dive spot of Catalina Islands. The first dive was a good introduction to the area. Good variety of fish, eels, sea urchin, starfish and interesting rock formations.

The second dive was a stand out. Again, the operations were great, the boat easy to step off of and in we went.

This time, a white tip reef shark and a group of eagle rays greeted us. Incredible.  A great dive.

I would use PCDC again in a heartbeat.
